Staying on Top

Do you have a dream? Are you achieving your dream? Have you achieved your dream? ….your strategy to achieving your dream and the strategy to maintaining your dream takes the same stuff

Hard work + More hard work + Commitment + Passion = Success

Today I was in the gym watching others around me train. The gym I train in is no ordinary “general public” gym. I train in a gym with elite athletes. Athletes who are the best of the best in their sport, not just in Australia but in the world….If the athletes are not already Olympians or World Champions, they are aspiring Olympians who are the “cream of the crop” in their chosen sport.

What struck me today was the amount of effort they were putting into their training. Not only were they sweating, but they were hurting…really bad. Some looked like they wanted to vomit, others almost crying in pain.

Despite being the best in the world…they were still sweating, still hurting, still investing enormous amounts of energy and time to do what they do.

Sometimes we can look at people who are successful, we can see the fame, see the title and see the perks of what their success has brought. What most people don’t see is the sweat, tears and hours spent training, investing into their dream….and then…..even when their dream is achieved, they continue to invest, put in effort and time to stay at the top. They don’t give up, they don’t half their effort and they don’t allow themselves to become complacent.

Don’t ever allow yourself to think you have “arrived” . Celebrate your success but never get complacent in your success that you stop working hard, reduce your commitment and lose your passion.

When the S*%T hits the fan!

Does it seem that everything is going wrong right now? Each day you look forward to a new start, a new beginning but before the day ends something else has happened. You hear of another tragedy, another loss, another disappointment.

It may be you didn’t get the job you applied for, your bank balance is in the red and your relationship is not going as you planned. Perhaps someone died, your friend has cancer or your partner has left you…no matter how big or small your crisis is it is still overwhelming and creates the desire in you to run away and hid somewhere.

Can you relate? Perhaps your life right now is going great, but sometime down the track life gets too much and you are screaming “TIME OUT!!!!

Life is overwhelming at times, its enough to want to scream, cry and yell “ ITS NOT FAIR”

BUT…you know what I have learnt? There is a reason to be grateful, there is a reason to be thankful and there is a reason to smile. Actually there is more than just ‘a’ reason..there are many.

This is what I know to be true. All of my life, In every season there is a reason to sing there is a reason to smile.

It is a choice to do this, especially where you have justifiable reasons to not. My being grateful and thankful does not mean the bad things are not going on, but it’s acknowledging  that despite them I make the choice to smile toward the future anyway.

So whatever crisis you find yourself it and when it all just seems like the shit has hit the fan ( because sometimes that is the only way to explain it). Stop, Pause, Breath, and Think about something you can be grateful for.

Your future is too important for you to get stuck in this crappy moment. I believe you can walk through this season with your head high and with a resilience to face whatever comes your way and still be able to stand, smile and look forward to the future.

Mindfulness

“ A human mind is a wandering mind, and a wandering mind is an unhappy mind. The ability to think about what is not happening is a cognitive achievement that comes at an emotional cost”*

Mindfulness is not a new capacity that we need to learn. It is about being in the present and that; we need to practice .

When is the last time during your when you just stopped. Did nothing , but was in a state of just being?

I challenge you right this moment to intentionally be mindful, intentionally stop, and intentionally take a deep breath in and a deep exhale out.

Be still for a moment…

Extraordinary

“We all want to be extraordinary

and we all just want to fit in.

Unfortunately, extraordinary people rarely fit in.”
